A Rant Derivatived From A Negative Memory

The Boy Least Likely To : i took my hits on a dumb road trip.

and listened to some new cds that i bought in lawrence, kansas. i found two great record shops there. kiefs downtown and the love garden. and i found a fantastic second hand book shop there too, where i picked up a biography of anne sexton and andrea dworkin’s autobiography for a couple of dollars.

the shops i went into in lawrence all seemed to be full of cats. the love garden had three cats and i bought some badges with pictures of them on. i liked lawrence a lot. it was the first place we’d been to in america that i could imagine living there. it was quiet and calm, and seemed kind of cut off from the rest of kansas. lots of wizard of oz memorabilia in the shops too. we’ll definitely try and go back there on the next tour.

If more cool bands, like The Boy Least Likely To, would visit Lawrence more often, I might be tempted to move back there.

Yes, Kief's Downtown is a great record store. And the Anne Sexton purchase was probably at the awesome and eclectic The Dusty Bookshelf on Mass Street. However, I have very negative memories of Love Garden.

During my first semester at KU, I took Calc II having taken the equivalent of AP Calc I in high school. The TA for my class wore a Love Garden t-shirt at least once a week, sometimes twice week. I was not prepared for Calc II and my TA was horrible. I walked from my class to my residence hall on the verge of tears on more than one occasion. After dropping the class and taking an Incomplete, I harbor a hatred for all things related to that TA including the Love Garden record store.

I took Calc II at 7:30AM(!) the following semester with a wonderful TA and passed without any difficulty.

Many years later, I visited Love Garden and found it to be a really cool record shop but was still hesitated to climb the stairs to the second floor store.

File Under: Gov't is run by idiots

:: the redhead papers :: » “Security” doesn’t really apply to your office computer, dude..

This moron was not only trolling for underaged girls, he was trolling for them FROM HIS GOVERNMENT OFFICE. You know, the place where they tap phones and record calls and, oh, I don’t know, MONITOR INTERNET USAGE. Look, if the government’s going to try and monitor the internet usage at public libraries, then I’m fairly certain they’re going to do the same thing AT YOUR DESK, you smugly smiling toolbox.

Save the Baby Seals!

brooklynvegan: Stream the new Morrissey | Seal Hunts Suck.

We will not include any Canadian dates on our world tour to promote our new album. This is in protest against the barbaric slaughter of over 325,000 baby seals which is now underway.

globeandmail.com : Observers banned from watching seal hunt.

The quota for this year's Gulf hunt is 91,000 seals. Another 234,000 can be taken in a second hunt that begins in April off the north coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

For better or worse...

Ever wonder what the recurring characters on Veronica Mars are doing in the their free time? Instead of watching the re-airing of last week's episode on UPN, flip over to HBO on Sunday nights and watch Big Love.

Does polygamy make for good drama? Three women sharing one man will definitely create some drama. The concept of the show is interesting enough to keep my attention but I found myself laughing when I should be caring. It's quirky and occasionally cute. I keep watching because I want to know how some of the characters found themselves in this family, and how those who did not have a choice--the kids--feel about it.

Do you want fries with your fishwich?...and the Beaver

The eldest daughter, played brilliantly by Amanda Seyfried who played Veronica's dead best friend, admits to not agreeing with her parent's practice to a friend. In an odd bit of casting, her friend is played by Tina Majorino, who currently is Veronica's friend Mac. Also from Neptune High, Kyle Gallner plays one of the son's friends.

In the world of Veronica Mars, we are getting more clues to this season's super villain. Is mayor Woody Goodman too obvious a choice? And what if the reason the bus went over a cliff has to do with someone else on the bus? Could Meg's mom have hired Curly to kill both her daughter and the boy who knocked her up? (That's my long shot guess. The Manning's are more fucked up than any of the families on Big Love.)
